PG-13: New Movies to Watch With Your Teens

New Movies to Watch With Your Teens

(Updated 07/24/2020)

Choosing movies to watch with your kids can be difficult, especially when they get to be teens. You might want to find a movie that balances being entertaining and also challenging enough to satisfy viewers who are (for the time being) not willing to be caught watching kids stuff. Fortunately, even in this year where new movie releases have been delayed, there are some great new PG-13 movies coming soon.

Here are four very different new PG-13 movies you can watch with your teens.

Death on the Nile

In DEATH ON THE NILE, Hercule Poirot's Egyptian adventure aboard a glamorous river steamer descends into a terrifying search for a murderer when an idyllic honeymoon is shattered by violent deaths. This sinister tale of obsessive love and its murderous consequences plays out in an epic landscape of danger and foreboding, with enough shocking twists and turns to leave audiences unsettled and guessing until the final, shocking resolution. Kenneth Branagh returns as director and once again stars as famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. He is joined by an all-star cast of suspects which includes: Tom Bateman (reprising the role of Bouc, from MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS), Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders and Letitia Wright.

From the pages of Marvel's "X-Men" comic books — and the offshoot series from which this movie takes its title — comes an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive. Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Alice Braga, and Henry Zaga star.

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

The Witches

Author Roald Dahl’s story of supernatural adventure is reimagined for a new audience by filmmaker Robert Zemeckis. The visually innovative THE WITCHES tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy (Jahzir Kadeem Bruno) who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma (Octavia Spencer) in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. The boy and his grandmother come across some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, so Grandma wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch (Anne Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.
