When Kevin Feige revealed Marvel's upcoming movie slate at Comic-Con in July 2022, he had a few huge revelations. Perhaps the biggest is that the current story cycle, now known as the Multiverse Saga, will conclude with a pair of avengers movies. The first of the two is called AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY.
When making the announcement, Feige revealed little more than the movie's title and a logo. Since then, the movie‘s director has been revealed — and no, this will not be the return of the Russo Brothers. The director is, however, someone from the Marvel Universe famiy. Here is everything we know about AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY.
Marvel Studios will release AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY on May 2, 2025, exclusively in movie theatres. There is likely to be another Marvel movie earlier that year, but we don't have a title for it yet. (Though if we had to place a bet, it would be on the SHANG-CHI sequel, which is rumored to be subtitled WRECKAGE OF TIME.)
We understand why you have to ask but no, there is definitely no official trailer, any images, or even official concept art from THE KANG DYNASTY. Not anything available to the public, anyway. The movie hasn't even started filming yet!
Destin Daniel Cretton has been announced as the director of AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY. He is a surprising and interesting choice. Cretton, of course, directed SHANG-CHI, and he was almost immediately set to direct the sequel. That sequel, as we mentioned just above, is rumored to be called WRECKAGE OF TIME, which is intriguing in light of the fact that Cretton is now officially set to make an Avengers movie about a time-manipulating villain.
This leads to many questions. One: Is Cretton still going to direct SHANG-CHI 2? Or has he moved on to THE KANG DYNASTY, and is passing SHANG-CHI 2 to someone else? Or, and this isn't totally out of the question, did SHANG-CHI 2 mutate into THE KANG DYNASTY?
Unless the Shang Chi sequel has somehow filmed in secret, which seems highly unlikely, we don't know how Cretton can manage to do both SHANG-CHI 2 and the next AVENGERS movie in time for release in 2025.
The answer to this question might be complicated. In a very broad sense, the answer is likely to be yes. There is a long comic book story from 2001 and 2002 called "Kang Dynasty." That storyline dealt with Kang's attempt to conquer the entire world, and it took place in multiple different centuries.
But even when Marvel Studios uses the title of a major storyline for a movie — look to AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR for this — they rarely adapt the story directly. The comic book version of "Kang Dynasty" featured some characters who have not yet appeared in the MCU, such as Wolverine and the Fantastic Four, and some who are now dead, such as Tony Stark and Wanda Maximoff.
The title does give us a broad indication of what to expect from the movie. Certainly, we know that Kang the conqueror, who appeared in the "Loki" streaming series and will be the villain in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA, will also be a bad guy this time. Because Kang can travel through time, we can expect that time shifting will be part of the story. And, of course, the multiverse will be in play, too.
All those elements are boilerplate expectations for a big Marvel movie at this point, however. Until we see some of the other movies that will arrive before KANG DYNASTY, we can’t make any reliable predictions.
