New Movies Dads Will Love
6/1/2021 • 4 min read
Movie-loving dads are in for a treat this Father's Day! Movie theatres are open again and movies we've been eager to see — like THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT — are hitting the big screen just in time for 2021's celebration of dad. Here are new movies that dads will love, whether they're into action, horror, comedy, or documentaries. We know we're stretching the Father's Day window a bit to include F9 here, as it doesn't open until five days after Father's Day, but it's such a perfect dad movie that we couldn't resist.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Horror-loving dads get to enjoy the latest chapter in the consistently spooky supernatural series. This movie is based on a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). It starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.
The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2
It's been a thrill to see some great new horror as theatres reopen, and now we've got an excellent counterpart to films like THE CONJURING with this horror spoof. In MEET THE BLACKS 2, Carl Black (Mike Epps) is about to face off with the neighbor from hell (Katt Williams). Carl has only ever wanted the best for his family, but after surviving the events that led to his (not-so-) bestselling book, he’s moving everyone to his childhood home, where’s he’ll contend not only with his wife Lorene (Zulay Henao) and kids Allie (Bresha Webb) and Carl Jr. (Alex Henderson) but everyone who drives him crazy: Cronut (Lil Duval), Freezee (Andrew Bachelor), Rico (Tyrin Turner), and an entire neighborhood of characters who seem to attract strange activity after dark. And nothing could be more freaky than his new neighbor Dr. Mamuwalde (Williams), who may or may not be a vampire.
The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard
Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds teamed up to great comedic effect in THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD, and now they're joined by Salma Hayek for the sequel. The world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) – are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio gets in over their heads in a global plot, and soon finds that they are all that stands between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas).
The Sparks Brothers
If you know a dad who loves music, this is the best gift they can get this year, as the filmmaker behind HOT FUZZ and BABY DRIVER explores the story of the biggest band you've never heard of. How can one rock band be successful, underrated, hugely influential, and criminally overlooked all at the same time? Edgar Wright’s debut documentary THE SPARKS BROTHERS, which features commentary from celebrity fans Flea, Jane Wiedlin, Beck, Jack Antonoff, Jason Schwartzman, Neil Gaiman, and more, takes audiences on a musical odyssey through five weird and wonderful decades with brothers/bandmates Ron and Russell Mael celebrating the inspiring legacy of Sparks: your favorite band’s favorite band.
If you're willing to celebrate a few days after Father's Day, this is the one we've all been waiting for. No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past. F9 is the ninth chapter in the FAST & FURIOUS SAGA. Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, the upcoming THE SUICIDE SQUAD). The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tbilisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.
