Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - Everything We Know So Far

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - Everything We Know So Far

(12/15/2021)

It’s been a long time since we last checked in with the TRANSFORMERS series. The most recent movie, BUMBLEBEE, came out in 2018, while Michael Bay’s final entry, TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT, was released a year earlier. After the events of the last two years, both feel like they're of a different age.

Now, it's almost time for another big TRANSFORMERS adventure, and with it, a new era. BUMBLEBEE was a fresh start for the series. Now that continues with TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS. Here’s everything you need to know about the journey of "Beast Wars" from television to the big screen.

How Can You See Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?

Hold tight because TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS won’t be striding into theaters for a while. Currently, the movie's release date is June 9, 2023. That’s right, 2023. If nothing else, when we do finally see the film, those robots will be looking beautiful.

Does Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Have a Trailer?

Sadly, no. As of this writing, TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS does not yet have a trailer. There aren't any official images, either. Or anything, really.

But don't take that as bad news! Paramount execs have shown off new TRANSFORMERS footage at trade-only events, so the movie is certainly still coming out. And some early merchandise designs are starting to make their way to the public — as is often the case with a movie like this, our first look at some of the movie's designs will be via toys and merchandise.

What is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts About?

There is a lot going on with TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS. For starters, it takes place in 1994, making it both a prequel to the TRANSFORMERS series but also a sequel to BUMBLEBEE. The characters will look more like Generation One Transformers than the Michael Bay versions. The promise of a classic Optimus Prime alone is likely to get people excited.

But that doesn’t even get into the "Beast Wars" of it all. Whatever business Optimus Prime and Bumblebee get up to, it’s also going to involve prehistoric Transformers that transform into animals instead of vehicles. So while Peter Cullen will return to voice Optimus Prime, he’ll be joined by Ron Perlman as the famous Optimus Primal. (Famous among fandom, anyway.)

TRANSFORMERS has a large multi-generational following. But within that fandom, a special place exists for its computer-animated spinoff, "Beast Wars", which was followed by the darker, more esoteric "Beast Machines." Despite a premise that seemed silly at first glance, "Beast Wars" proved to be a surprisingly deep and mature take on the TRANSFORMERS mythos. It developed new and unique ideas while honoring the original. So RISE OF THE BEASTS, as the big-screen version, is hotly anticipated.

Who Is in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?

Along with voice work from Peter Cullen and Ron Perlman, TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS will feature live-action turns from Anthony Ramos, Luna Lauren, Vélez, and Dominique Fishback.

Who Made Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?

TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS is directed by Steven Caple Jr, whose last big screen effort was CREED II. So you know the fights will be good! And the training montage, if we are lucky enough to get one.

We'll tell you more about RISE OF THE BEASTS soon!
