The Biggest Fall Movies of 2022

Summer is great but we love when the air cools, the leaves start to change, and the movies get a bit more serious. The big fall film festivals in Venice, Telluride and Toronto offer early looks at movies that we'll see through the beginning of the year, and we don't have to wait long for many of them — there are new movies from Walt Disney Animation and big directors like Steven Spielberg, David O. Russell, and Luca Guadagnino.
Many of the movies coming out this fall will be a big part of the awards season conversation that runs through the end of the winter. More importantly, they offer something for just about every taste.

Amsterdam
It's a murder conspiracy caper set in the 1930s with Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Taylor Swift, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro. Read more about AMSTERDAM here.
TÁR
Cate Blanchett stars as an ultra-talented composer and conductor whose life falls apart, possibly due to her own mistakes. TÁR comes from writer/director Todd Field, and it's his first movie in more than 15 years. Blanchett's work ensures that she'll be in the mix come Oscar time next year. Read more about TÁR here.
Till
The murder of Emmett Till is the event around which this movie turns, but TILL is really concerned with the crime's effect on Till's mother (Danielle Deadwyler) and family — and, as his killers are put on trial — the community and society at large. Read more about TILL here.
The Banshees of Inisherin
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, who were so perfectly matched in IN BRUGES, reunite to play friends whose relationship has curdled. When these two actors get to play out a verbally dextrous and bitter battle — engineered by writer/director Martin McDonagh — it doesn't even matter why. Black Adam
Dwayne Johnson's dream of playing an ultra-powerful DC superhero finally comes true. The actor has been angling to play Shazam's old nemesis ever since his big-screen career really took off, so we hope his brand of superhero spectacle has been worth the wait. Read more about BLACK ADAM here.
Armageddon Time
Director James Gray (AD ASTRA, THE LOST CITY OF Z) returns with a story that explores the strength of family, the complexity of friendship, and the generational pursuit of the American Dream. Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway, and Jeremy Strong lead the cast.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The Fabelmans
Steven Spielberg fictionalizes his own childhood and entry into filmmaking in a story that brings all his emotional filmmaking powers to bear. Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell play young cannibals in love in this Regan-era road trip movie based on the savage novel by Camille DeAngelis.
