We met the demonic nun Valak in a supremely terrifying sequence in THE CONJURING 2, in 2016. In 2018, the spotlight was on Valak in THE NUN, which cast Taissa Farmiga as the primary villain. THE NUN scared up more than $100m at the box office in the US and just over $365m total worldwide, making it the most successful film in the CONJURING series.
Now THE NUN 2 sees Valak donning her habit once again for a new chapter. While there isn't yet a trailer for the horror sequel, we can pass along a few bits of news to enjoy while you wait for the first footage.
When Does The Nun II Come Out?
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures will release THE NUN II in movie theatres on September 8.

No trailer for THE NUN 2 has been released. Anything you see on YouTube right now is fan-made with old footage. The first trailer for THE NUN 2 will likely be released in the next month or two; we'll update as soon as it drops.
The Story in The Nun 2
We don't have too many details about the NUN 2 story yet, but there are a few tidbits. The sequel is set in 1956, four years after the events of THE NUN. A priest is murdered in France, and circumstances suggest that it isn't a strictly secular crime. We don't know how Sister Irene becomes involved or precisely why the action moves from Romania to France.
But we know that Valak — who escaped destruction at the end of the last movie by possessing a local villager — is connected to the killing.
The Cast of The Nun 2
Three key members of the cast of THE NUN return: Taissa Farmiga as Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons as Valak. Jonas Bloquet, who played Frenchie, aka Maurice, the villager who became Valak's escape vehicle, is also in the cast.
Newcomers include Storm Reid ("The Last of Us," MISSING, and "Euphoria") and Anna Popplewell (THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA films, "Reign"). Relative newcomer Katelyn Rose Downey (PRINCESS) has a role, too. We expect a few more cast revelations to arrive with the first trailer.
The Filmmakers Behind The Nun 2
Director Michale Chaves, who made THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT and THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA, is directing THE NUN 2, which went into production back in October of 2022. The film's story is credited to Akela Cooper, who scripted with Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing.
And THE CONJURING architect James Wan is involved once again as producer.
THE NUN 2 opens on September 8.
